“Black Panther” Surpasses “Titanic” As Third-Highest-Grossing Movie

Marvel’s Black Panther continues to make history a short two months following its release. The movie has officially surpassed Titanic as the third-highest grossing film of all time in North America as of Saturday. The film earned $659.3 million as of Friday, coming in just shy of Titanic’s $659.5 million, which it easily surpassed the following day. It now ranks behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.7 million) and Avatar ($760.5 million). To be fair, none of the totals have been adjusted with inflation in mind, and Titanic was released in 1997.

Black Panther has already entered the top ten globally, currently ranked at number 10 with $1.29 billion in total worldwide earnings. Seeing that the film is still in theatres, it should continue to rake in profits for the next little while.

The film’s star Chadwick Boseman, hosted this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live. He was joined by Cardi B as the musical guest, who announced her pregnancy on the show.

Black Panther‘s soundtrack, curated by Kendrick Lamar and Top Dawg Entertainment’s Anthony Tiffith, has also seen considerable success. It debuted atop the Billboard 200 with 154,000 equivalent album units, and maintained the position for three consecutive weeks. It features guest appearances from Jorja Smith, Swae Lee, ScHoolboy QSZA, Travis Scott, and more
